We were right: A basking in our Trader Joe's-related glory

This morning, Dish spoke to Trader Joe's spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki who confirmed that a store is planned for the Pittsburgh area. Few believed Dish last year when we broke the news (ok rumor) via high level sources, (ok, a guy who says a clerk at a TJ's in Cleveland told him the chain was coming to Pittsburgh), which proves that Dish can tangle with big media when it involves chicken potstickers at $2.69 for 16 ounces.

To the naysayers, we say "nah na na na na."

Mochizuki would only verify that a store is "slated for this year." She would not say where the store would be located or a definitive date. However, Dish has every intention to provide additional information (ok more rumors) as soon as we can ask (ok poke with a pointy stick) another random TJ's customer.

Suck on it, Whole Foods.

Update: Damn you Mark Belko, for stealing our thunder. However, we bow to thee.

Gratz on the TJ's , actually TJ's & Whole Foods are different concepts.

TJ's is not for the wealthy its for the ever day person who is okay with a trade off of quality for a much smaller selection of brands then you will find in other stores.

As a rule the items are of a better quality then the main stream chains with a price thats less then the major markets but a little more then the warehouse stores.

My suggestion is that you try what they have with the understand that when TJ's does an item right its amazing and when they miss the mark at least you know you don't need to buy it again.

Foodies Enjoy !!

Out of perhaps pathetic professional self-interest, I'm chiming in here to demonstrate that I wrote about Trader Joe's last Tuesday evening WITH the location included on the website for the Pittsburgh Business Times, and I've written about TJ's search here at least three times in the past four years.. See link:
http://pittsburgh.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/stories/2006/05/22/daily21.html?surround=lfn

A fair amount of information in the daily stories the next day seemed derivative of what I wrote....It's interesting to note that five days later the news about Trader Joe's remains the most viewed story on the website for the Pittsburgh Business Times.

I know...I know....who really cares? At least they're actually coming. Just wanted to set the record straight. (Hey, I get paid to be first on this kind of thing.)

I enjoy your site.

Dayum... They be steppin' on Whole Food's turf, yo. I can envision it now. Crazy white people performing drive-bys in the respective stores' parking lots. They'll be hanging out of the windows of their Subaru Outbacks, pelting each other with exotic organic fruit and yelling things like, "TJ be up in yo' ass! WHUT?!"
